We will start with a walk in the historical center of Praia – the «Plateau», where we will see the cross district, the place, the church and the public market, the art street of Ponta Belém, going down via the Sukupira market. After that, we will take the bus to Cidade Velha, located 20 min away from the capital, the first city built by the Portugues in Africa and considered as the cradle of Cape Verde. The historical center of Ribeira Grande, renamed «Cidade Velha» at the end of the XVIIIth century, siècle, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage in 2009 and, caring its historical remains, the majority of the ruins and its typical architecture (wall made with rocks and roof made with thatch) are well preserved.
We will visit the São Filipe Fort, 100 meters above the sea level. It was build to protect the city from the pirates that were constantly attacking the city between the XVIth and the XVIIth century – among them Francis Drake and Jacques Cassard. At our arrival in Cidade Velha, we will visit each monument and ruin, including the old cathedral, the São Franciso convent, the Nossa Senhora do Rosário church (the first church established in the old colonies), the Banana street and the old slaves market, with its pillory.
The lunch will take place in a restaurant close to the sea, in the center of Cidade Velha. The tour includes the transfer and the guide.

With this excursion we will enjoy an unforgettable trip to the North of the island - in Tarrafal we will contemplate the unique landscapes of the island of Santiago. High mountains, plains and green valleys, we will find that the landscape changes completely from that of the city of Praia. The first stop is in São Domingos.
We will see different villages, passing by the Peak of Antónia, the highest point of the island. 60km from Praia we will find the town of Assomada, an important trading point, where we will visit the traditional market (only on Wednesdays and Saturdays).
The tour continues passing through the Serra Malagueta region, with its eucalyptus forest, several types of acacias and other endemic plants. We will finally arrive at Tarrafal, a fishing village where we can visit the former concentration camp, now turned into a museum, and then go to the incredible bay, with a very pleasant sea, surrounded by palm trees - considered as one of the most beautiful beaches in the country (free time to swim)

- Santiago - Hiking Ribeira Principal Serra da Malagueta
DAY TOUR • OPTIONAL
Hike to the Serra Malagueta Natural Park, located in the north of the island. One of the most beautiful hikes on the island of Santiago, descending through the Ribeira Principal Valley to the small village of Hortelão. Along the way, we will pass between traditional stone houses, accessible only on foot. The guide will explain the curiosities about the flora and the daily life of the inhabitants who live there mainly from agriculture.

DAY TOUR • PLANNED
With this tour, we will know one of the gems of Santiago island – the county of Santa Cruz, with the city of Pedra Badejo, on the island East coast. A town with ideal landscapes, mountains and sea, the fishing and farming traditions with its big banana and coconut trees fields. During this ramble, we will do a light walk (around 1,5 h) in the heart of the banana, coconut, mango trees and many others. At Pedra Badejo, we will see the harbour with its fishermen boats and a beautiful black sand beach. Along the road, we will also see beautiful, deserted black sand beaches, such as "Praia dos amores" (Lovers' beach). After, we will make a stop at the “rabelados” community at the village of Espinho Branco. They are a religious community, who rebeled against society and church during colonial time, and now still
keeps its unique traditions. Here, we will have the chance to see and buy some handy-craft pieces, paintings, while we learn more about this culture.
